Work for Homeless Households

Building on OSW’s Transitional Spaces Project model, the Work for Homeless Households project will provide employment-focused advice, guidance and practical support to families in temporary accommodation in the west London target boroughs. Beginning in April 2008, the two year project will use a coaching methodology to assist economically inactive family members to address issues such as personal finances and debt, benefits, housing, and personal support needs such as physical and mental health. Where possible, the project will link with borough-based rent deposit schemes and other move-on initiatives to provide better access to settled housing.
The project will work in close co-operation with local authority social services and housing departments to build upon existing initiatives, and to provide access to homeless families meeting the London Councils criteria.
The project will employ two job coaches who will work across the boroughs of Brent, Ealing, Harrow, Hillingdon, Hounslow and Kensington & Chelsea. To maximise access, they will provide a floating service, but will ideally have a physical presence in a borough housing office. This will provide a vital connection to borough priorities and related initiatives.
